Benjamin Freudenthal
Benjamin Freudenthal was born in Bordeaux in 1969 of French/Dutch parents. Benjamins' mother was herself an artist as well as a trained artistic teacher, so it was no surprise that Benjamin was always interested in sketching and painting.
As a child Benjamin was a keen aviation fan and he was captivated by the illustrations on Matchbox model kits by the English artist Roy Haxley. It was not long before Benjamin realised he was much better at drawing the models than he was at making them.
In 1989 Benjamin enroled at Fine Art school where he was introduced to the artwork of Michael Turner, this was a massive turning point in Benjamins' career, he now had a standard of work at which to aim at and a subject matter that greatly inspired him.
From 1995-97 Benjamin worked as a freelance artist for the Heller model kit company making several aviation illustrations for them.
Since 2001 Benjamin has concentrated on producing and publishing his own work. Alternating between aviation and motorsport subjects, Benjamins' favourite era is the 1920's - 50's. His latest piece on the Monaco Grand Prix of 1931 is entitled Gentlemen Drivers and it captures the essence of the era perfectly.
