About this deal

Before we get into the review of the Oregon 295397 Type C chainsaw trousers there are two crucial stats on these. Firstly as I just alluded to, these are type C and they are class 1 so you can rely on them up to 20 m/s chainsaw protection. They are without question, the top type c chainsaw trousers available in the UK unless you want to spend an arm and a leg on professional arborist trousers!

Yes, they are chaps but they still cover your legs, or at least a good portion of them, so for the sake of argument, they are now chainsaw trousers, and for the money they are a good pair too. Precise measurement is an important step in ensuring that you get chaps that are the right size. If chaps are too short, your legs could be exposed. Chaps that are too long, however, are also unsafe since they could cause you to trip. Do not use electric tools in wet conditions unless they are approved for that use. If you must work in wet conditions, always ensure you have good balance and are unlikely to slip. Being chaps, they of course give you the convenience of being able to take them on and off easily by releasing the four rear straps that can also be adjusted, along with the waist strap, for a perfect fit. In conclusion, if you have the extra few quid to spare, I would go with these trousers every day of the week. However, if you are on a tighter budget or just don’t use chainsaws enough to warrant paying a hundred quid, any of the other, cheaper products would more than suffice. For higher quality, you have to pay a premium, such is the way of the world. However, while these chainsaw trousers are 30-50 pounds more expensive than our other reviewed products, you really do get what you pay for, and that is a superior product.

One of the advantages of chainsaw chaps is that they are easy to slip on over your jeans and then you just use the three straps (one at the waist and two on the legs) to secure them in place. This makes them a good choice if you think you are going to be in and out of the house a lot as you can just slip them off when you enter and not risk getting dirt and oil everywhere, which would no doubt make the wife very happy….not. Another hearing protection option are earmuffs. Earmuffs will provide you with the most protection from excessive noise. In addition to the NRR, you’ll also want to consider the weight of the earmuffs and how comfortable they are. Most protective earmuffs will have PVC cushions for added comfort. Having tools with excellent durability is extremely important. Not only will it mean you will not have to spend out on replacement tools when they break prematurely, but because tougher tools will do a better job. Sometimes cheaper ones can appear to work great until wear and damage suddenly make them unusable, and you are left unable to complete your task. This will lead to an extended work period as you will have to go out and buy a replacement. If you use that tool as part of your profession, it could mean the difference between hitting your deadline or not. No matter what kind of job you have or how you’re using the equipment, make sure your tools can stand up to the task in the first place.

While we hate to say this, if chainsaw trousers do get torn (or cut), it’s usually best to stop using them as protective trousers. You might still be able to wear them as general work trousers, or you might be able to recycle them. Whatever you do, however, don’t rely on them as safety equipment. We’ve yet to hear of any options for repairing chainsaw trousers to an acceptable (i.e. safe) standard. Chainsaw trouser styling Chaps should be long enough to cover the tops of your boots. To know how long your chaps should be, measure from your waist (just below the belt where the chaps will sit) to the beginning of your foot. This length will provide full coverage and protection. When you are finished using a compression tool like a nail gun, make sure that the pressure is released before you break the hose connections. I’m 5ft 10” and a fit 14 stone, and I tried out XL size and I found them to be just about right for me, but I do like to have a bit of room to move in my chainsaw trousers.
