The hit reality TV show The Traitors is now filming its second UK season - and if you can't wait you can recreate the drama at home with an official board game. Based on the hit reality competition, the game combines strategy and suspicion, offering a unique and engaging gameplay experience. In Panic Station, players control two characters sent out by the government to investigate the presence of an evil alien life form. Players will take control of a human trooper and an android as they explore the base looking for the xenomorph’s hive. Players have to work together to clear the base of threats and, once they locate the hive, exterminate it. Take down the alien hive and the players win. In other words, it’s the perfect recipe for a tense evening of double-crossing your family and friends around the kitchen table, with scenes likely to resemble this hilarious viral clip of a group of people playing The Traitors to pass time at a bus stop. On top of the common victory condition, each player also receives a secret personal objective. These may be harmless or even complementary to the main objective. But not all – some will have you weigh carefully what is more important – your interests or group interests. I remember the tension and fear I experienced when I first saw the original Alien movie from 1979. It was one of the things that got me interested in sci-fi and horror, and it made Alien one of my favorite franchises. And I’m definitely not alone. You’ll need at least 3 other treacherous terrors to play The Traitors as is it for 4 – 8 players. As our household is usually a 2-3 bods around the board affair, we drafted in our not-yet-game addicted but willing friends. In Dead of Winter, players are members of one such colony. The living is harsh and they must work together toward their common mission objective, while also providing enough food and supplies, fending off outside threats, and resolving other negative events that may happen on the way. In this dark dramatic family game, the question arises: Who are you willing to betray to claim victory? To compound that, halfway through the game, another round of loyalty cards are dealt out. So you might have been 100% sure that the player next to you was human, perhaps not anymore. You yourself might have been working hard to help the human, only to now realize your on the other team. This concept will seem quite familiar to any fans of the TV show.Betrayal is a ton of fun to play. The best part is no one can know who the traitor will be until it happens. That nice little girl you just gave an item to might turn around and use it to stab you in a few turns. The random party member that turns on the rest is an interesting dynamic that adds a lot of tension to the second half of the game. There have been games when the player with the most health and items suddenly turned on the party, much to the chagrin of the rest of the players. With some great components and a play time in under an hour, Betrayal is a great choice for gamers and non-gamers alike. Note: Be sure to get the green box 2nd edition of this game. The first edition had a LOT of typos in the rule book and scenario books. Every time an event card is drawn, there could be a murder or banishment. You need to make sure you’re not the victim of either. Whenever a murder comes up, someone will die, so the Faithful need to work together to find out who is working against them. The board game allows players to fully immerse themselves in The Traitors experience as they either use their wits to unmask the traitor, or remain undetected as the traitor whilst competing alongside Faithfuls to win the prize pot.
